چکیده

This paper reports an analytical and numerical study of localized bending waves in a thin elastic isotropic semi-infinite strip with a rib reinforment. Such waves can be considered as spatially non-uniform bending perturbations localized near free edges, similar to Rayleigh waves decaying exponentially with the distance. From the analysis of localized bending waves in thin elastic structures it may be possible to infer the presence of imperfections, cracks or inclusions, in the structure. In this study, a semi-infinite strip, simply supported on two edges and reinforced on the free one, is considered. A general solution is presented and the conditions under which localized bending waves exist are derived. The mathematical model, accompanied by numerical simulations, reveals that the presence of a reinforcement rib can suppress localized bending waves. This effect is mainly due to the stiffness coming from the rib, rather than from its added inertia terms. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

EFFECT OF BOUNDARY CONDITIONS ON LOCALIZED INSTABILITY OF THE SEMI-INFINITE ORTHOTROPIC PLATE

This paper is concerned with an investigation into the localized instability of a thin elastic orthotropic semi-infinite plate. In this study, a semi-infinite plate, simply supported on two edges and under different boundary conditions of clamped, hinged, sliding contact and free on the other edge, is studied. A mathematical model is used and a general solution is presented. The conditions unde...

Numerical Investigation of Rail Bending Behaviour Focusing on the Effect of Track Modulus

Thorough understanding of steel rail response to wheel load is a key step towards design and evaluation of the railway track structure. In current practice, maximum vertical deflection and bending moment are calculated using the theory of infinite beam on continuous elastic foundation (Winkler model), in which the foundation stiffness is assumed as constant. However, variation of track modulus ...

Static Bending Analysis of Foam Filled Orthogonally Rib-Stiffened Sandwich Panels: A Mathematical Model

The current study presents a mathematical modeling for sandwich panels with foam filled orthogonally rib-stiffened core using Heaviside distribution functions. The governing equations of the static problem have been derived based on classical lamination theory. The present model contains three displacement variables considering all of the stiffness coefficients. A closed form solution using Gal...

Rigidity and Irregularity Effect on Surface Wave Propagation in a Fluid Saturated Porous Layer

The propagation of surface waves in a fluid- saturated porous isotropic layer over a semi-infinite homogeneous elastic medium with an irregularity for free and rigid interfaces have been studied. The rectangular irregularity has been taken in the half-space. The dispersion equation for Love waves is derived by simple mathematical techniques followed by Fourier transformations.  It can be seen t...

درد قفسه سینه در یک زن 56 ساله با هیپرپاراتیروئیدی اولیه و فراموش‌شده: گزارش مورد

Primary hyperparathyroidism is a benign disease and is most often diagnosed during routine calcium measurement. It would be astonishing if a patient is symptomatic, but the diagnosis is neglected. A 56-year-old woman was admitted with complaint of localized pain in the chest wall following a regular bending and straightening. CXR showed a mass like lesion of the chest wall on the left and also ...
